I went back to Juying yesterday, not as a student but as a relief teacher. It was great to be back there. So many memories either bad or good, they were all part of the process of growing up for us. Some might beg to differ la, saying that JYSS sux although they have spent 4 years there.

The school changed alot. The upper sec ppl took the old block while the lower sec ppl are occupying the new blog. The classrooms were like rubbish dumps… Classroom walls were light green (eiik…)

So here’s the whole complete recount on my return there… … …

I was woken up by the the nudges my sis, flo, gave me cos my hp was ringing. I didnt noe what time it was, but knew that it was way earlier than the usual time i wake up. Stunned i took the hp from my sis.
“Hello, is this Felicia?, I’m calling from Juying Secondary. I was wondering if you are able to do relief today…”
Me: “Err… I think so, until what time”
JYSS lady who turns out to be Mrs Sophia Ang :”Full shift, until 1.40pm”
Me:”Okay.”Mrs Ang:”Can u reach before 8pm?”
Me:” what time is it now?”
Mrs Ang:”7.15″
Me”I think so”
Mrs Ang:”I need a confirmed ans”
Me:” I’ll be there at 8″
After that i just dashed to the bathroom took a shower and ask my sis to help me choose something to wear, bearing in mind that after relief i must dash to taka for my 1st day of work as a sales promoter.

Went to Juying and the kids were still having assembly, with the principal babbling in front of them. Reported to general office and my guess was correct it was Mrs Ang who called me. She was stunned when she realised that her relief teacher was me!!! No one except for those from expo management call me Felicia.

She told me that I’m reliefing for Mr Siva. And i was escorted (not the right word to use, but at this moment i cant find a better word) to the staff room and took mr siva’s seat which was at the way back. Horray, now i get access to the “forbiden” staff room. Anybody wanna try too?

After the end of assembly the teachers started to fill up the class room, alot of old faces yet alot of new faces too. My seat was face to face with mr saz and mrs saz’s table, and back to back with mr thomas lau’s table. Dunno who sat beside me. It was fun to see that the teachers even those who never taught you or taught you for a short period of time in sec 2 still remember and recognise your face. I felt like I was at home.

Ms Wong and Mr Lim were overjoyed to see me back! Haha… Now i can actually chit chat with Mrs Hon w/o feeling disgusted, and tok to Ms Nada Ng like a friend. Ms Ratna , Ye lao shi and Mr thomas Lau actually still rmb me!!! Christina Ng recognises me, Mrs Choong actually talked to me! Too bad Ms Grace Ng, Mrs Tan JK and Mr Chong Chin Hong arent there anymore. Teachers are really different once they step out of the teacher role.

My first 2 periods was 3A2. Once I stepped inside, one girl shouted ” Relief teacher leh!” and quickly covered her mouth once I looked in her direction. I told them not to make noise and run ard, and to do their own things. This class is full of monkeys! Cant stick their butts to the chair. All of a sudden their bladders were full, a number of them asked to go to the toilet. At the end of the 2 periods was their pe lesson, hence once the 5 min bell rung, a fat girl asked me whether she can go to the toilet, she had her pe attire in her hands. I knew that once I let her go, the rest would also want to go, and I was instructed not to release the class before the bell rings. So I said no. She rolled her eyes and said in chinese ” 5 min bell yi jing xiang liao (the 5min bell has rang)” I wanted to scold her but decided not to do that, its pointless and I’m just gonna waste my energy.

3rd period was 3A3 the class beside it. But another teacher said that she’ll help me take over. So I had the next period free. and the 2 periods aft that i had free periods too. 1 hour 15 min to slack. rotted in the staff room, borrowed straits time from the canteen stand, went to the loo and chatted some more with nada ng who looked kinda free.

6th period was 3A2 again. this time they had just finished their reccess. It took 5 min before everyone was seated. After that 5 min the classes next door had their turn for reccess. A girl ran to the back door to chat with her friends. Her action was followed by a number of her classmates both boys and girls. I got irritated and just shouted from my seat ” GO BACK TO YOUR SEATS, RECCESS IS OVER!” Everybody ran to their seats and I heard a malay boy say “power”. they still ran about and chatted among themselves, went to the toilet, evenhough reccess was just over. I couldnt be bothered.

7th and 8th period was 5A2, alot of familiar faces cos these ppl were in sec1 when I was in sec3. I got some stares from some of them. This class was more behaved, although there were a couple trouble makers. There was this guy who asked to go to the toilet and he headed to the opposite direction from the toilet, which means that he was going to the class next door. My guess was that he went to chat cos there was no teacher next door. It took him very long to come back. So when he eventually came back, I asked him ” where did you go?”
Him:”toilet la”
Me:” how come you went to the other direction?” (hands pointing to the direction he went to.)Him:”huh? I went to the toilet la”
Me:”the toilet is in that direction and you went to that direction” (hands pointing to th respective directions)
Him:” I dunno” while he walked to his seat showing that attitude of his.
After him there were others who went to the toilet too, but there were alot who did their own work. The noise level was relatively low. Another boy asked my permission to go to the toilet. But like the previous boy the headed to the opposite direction again. I had the same conversation as the pervious boy. But his final ans was: “i went to level 2 to fill up my water bottle”
Me:” don’t thjink that I’m stupid, I’m an ex-student here!”
Him:”really, the level 3 water cooler is down, you can check if you want”I let him be. not my problem anyway.

The last 2 periods was 3A1. This class was more well behaved then 3A2, but worse than 5A2. Saw one familiar face, my juinor’s sister, who often hangs out with my sis.This class has more bitchy girls than the previous 2 classes. Even the prefect in that class was damn vain and bitchy. She kept on combing her hair and looking at her reflection in the mirror.Near the end of the 2 periods a boy asked to go to he toilet. Aft that boy left the class another boy jumped from his seat and ran out just like that. When i saw that I wanted to chase him, bearing in mind that I’m not supposed to leave the class unattended I shouted (again…) :” WHO SAID YOU CAN GO OUT!” The boy ran back and while running he said ” I say one” The whole class cheered and clapped to his reply. I didnt give a damn again, and let the matter rest. I was looking ard and when my gaze fell on the guy he looked very paiseh…

That was the end of my day in Juying. went to the general office gave my pass back and signed out. I got $65 for that day. Good and easy money. Cant wait for the next phone call. Waiting for it everyday. Oh ya, Mr siva was absent yest cos his wife gave birth.
